Empowerment workshop (ENG)

- in a world without isms*: workshop for people potentially affected by racism -

What would a normal day look like in a world without -isms? How would I wake up, what did I dream, how would I have slept, where would I go, what would I work on and how, who would I spend time with, how would I feel...?

In this empowerment workshop, Jamila Al-Yousef and Serkan Ünsal will take you on an artistic and political self-experience. We want to create a brave space in which we connect with ourselves and with the collective space through various games, writing and storytelling exercises. The workshop will be based on the wishes and needs of the participants and can range from very concrete exercises, such as reaction training to racist speech, to self-care tools as a form of political practice. In concrete terms, we are of course also interested in what needs you have within your (climate) activist work and how we can support you in this.

About the speakers

Jamila Al-Yousef is a singer, cultural scientist, festival curator and anti-racism/empowerment trainer from Berlin. Inspired by her Palestinian father, who fled to Germany, she began initiating postcolonial projects with a focus on West Asia and North Africa at an early age. Among other things, she founded the annual "Arab* Underground" programme at the Fusion Festival, set up the "Welcome Board" to support music creators who had fled for the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, and works as a lecturer, trainer and consultant in the field of cultural work critical of racism, among other things at the University of Hildesheim and as part of the "Diversity as a Task" programme of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts. She also tours Europe and West Asia with her psychedelic desert funk band "Jamila & The Other Heroes". www.jamilaandtheotherheroes.com

Serkan Ünsal is a political speaker, cultural educator and media educator. He develops projects at the intersections of digitality and education, with a view to socio-political issues and structural power relations - intersectional, empowering and critical of discrimination. He is part of the post-migrant and queer feminist education platform "explain to me..." where he is the editor responsible for the topic area "politics and society".

Empowerment Workshop (in Englisch)

- in einer Welt ohne Ismen*: Workshop für Menschen, die potenziell von Rassismus betroffen sind -

Wie sähe ein normaler Tag in einer Welt ohne -ismen aus? Wie würde ich aufwachen, was habe ich geträumt, wie würde ich geschlafen haben, wohin würde ich gehen, woran würde ich wie arbeiten, mit wem würde ich Zeit verbringen, wie würde ich mich fühlen...?

In diesem Empowerment-Workshop nehmen Jamila Al-Yousef und Serkan Ünsal euch mit auf eine künstlerische und politische Selbsterfahrung. Wir wollen einen brave space schaffen, in dem wir uns durch verschiedene Spiele, Schreib,- und Erzählübungen mit uns selbst und mit dem kollektiven Raum verbinden. Der Workshop richtet sich nach den Wünschen und Bedürfnissen der Teilnehmer:innen und kann von sehr konkreten Übungen, wie z.B. Reaktionstraining zu racist speech, bis hin zu Selbstfürsorge-Tools als eine Form der politischen Praxis reichen. Ganz konkret interessiert uns natürlich auch, welche Bedürfnisse ihr innerhalb eurer (klima-)aktivistischen Arbeit habt und wie wir euch hierbei unterstützen können.
